Natalia Mettifogo Palombo

I am Natalia Mettifogo Palombo, an Argentine visual artist based in Seville, Spain, for nearly twenty years. My artistic journey spans almost three decades, during which I have explored abstraction, colour, and the expressive possibilities of painting.

My work begins with observation. Travel, nature, architecture, and landscapes form part of a visual universe that I construct through photography. I am particularly interested in discovering new perspectives, observing the world from above, and focusing on details that often go unnoticed.

Photographs become the starting point of a process of interpretation. Through drawing and my working notebooks, I explore forms, structures, colours, and sensations that I later transform into abstract compositions. Colour plays an essential role in my artistic language.

I work primarily with acrylic and mixed media, seeking a balance between intuition, memory, and experimentation. My international experiences, exhibitions, and artist residencies have enriched this ongoing exploration, allowing me to discover new ways of interpreting spaces and cultures.

I understand painting as a way of transforming observation into a personal visual experience, where reality moves beyond recognisable imagery to become emotion, rhythm, and colour.

02 / The story

Naturaleza

Naturaleza is an evolving artistic project born from my need to observe, discover, and interpret the world around me. Throughout my travels, I have developed a personal way of seeing. I photograph landscapes, cities, architecture, territories, and small details that spark my curiosity.

I am equally fascinated by the vastness of landscapes seen from above and by the shapes, colours, and structures found in everyday surroundings. These images become the starting point of my creative process. In my sketchbooks, I draw, simplify, and reorganise what I observe.

My intention is not to reproduce a photograph faithfully, but to discover what lies beyond its appearance: its rhythm, geometry, contrasts, and the sensations it evokes. Travel and artist residencies have played a fundamental role in shaping this artistic language.

In India, where Naturaleza began to take shape, I discovered new relationships between colour, landscape, and everyday life. In Switzerland, surrounded by mountains and nature, I found a space for silence and observation that influenced my creative process.

My experiences in Russia and other places further expanded my perception of spaces, cultures, and their different forms of expression. Each place leaves an imprint on my visual memory. Sometimes it emerges as a colour, sometimes as a structure, a geometry, or a sensation that is difficult to define.

Through acrylic painting and mixed media, these experiences are transformed into abstract compositions in which colour plays an essential role. Naturaleza does not seek to represent a specific place, but rather to create a personal cartography of experiences, memories, and emotions.

It is an ongoing exploration of the transformation of the visible world into an abstract language, where each artwork preserves something of the place that inspired it while developing an identity of its own.
